When sue and I were in grad school we both desperately sought a creative outlet. First, sue made greeting cards but then started sewing freakin' glamorous bags. I learned to knit. Occasionally, with sue's help and lovely machine, I dabbled in sewing. But sue had no desire to learn how to knit. That was until Thanksgiving 2006. I had left for Greece when the urge to knit finally got a hold of her, but she had other resources...she had Sister Trish. (Trish is sue's sister and "Sister Trish" is how sue refers to her - Trish is not a nun). Although sue's mom and other sister Julie both know how to knit, Sister Trish is the family knitter. She can knit anything but prefers cabling to carrying colours. In fact, Sister Trish just finished a cabled afghan - a 10 year effort.
Sue's urge to knit did not come without a purpose. She wanted to make dishcloths. Sue had learned from someone that dishcloths should be changed daily or they grow bacteria. In order to do this, sue knew she would require A LOT of dishcloths. While I was in Greece, sue guest blogged about learning the art of dishcloths. I'm not sure a what point sue became addicted to knitting, but I had an inkling she may have been when she began giving people dishcloths as presents. Then, for Christmas, sue knit her entire family dishcloths. She made mini ones for her nephews so they wouldn't feel left out.
Then, when I got back from Sudbury, I found this in my mailbox. The dishcloths were everywhere.
I think sue has come to terms with her addiction and may have even accepted it. Inspired by the Lisa L, she has moved on to scarves. Thursday night, I taught her how to purl so that her scarf could be a 1X1 rib.
She even admits to having had a dream about knitting socks...Should I tell her there is probably no turning back?
as an avid sock-knitter, i can attest to the fact that once you get hooked on socks its ALL OVER! i am working on my third pair of socks right now (this tally is from 2006 only) last year i knit 6 pairs.
and... i have people demanding socks from me now. one guy even went so far as to demand THREE socks just incase he loses one. phew!

Ha! There's no hope for her now! Soon she'll quit her job and start dealing yarn on the streets...

Those dishcloths are sweet, and Lisa L's skinny scarf is the best schkarf ever. I made one, and it rocks. Yay sue! Welcome to the cult.

I have to admit... those dishcloths look awesome!
I'm currently in dishcloth mode... I have a drawer full of cotton I'm trying to use up.
Getting close... only 1-2 more dishcloths to go!

My knitted dishcloths are my favourite dishcloths. I haven't done any in a few years. Originally I did them to practice new stitches like moss and cable. I may get the cloth bug again!
